South Yorkshire's scrap yard

Sheffield, Steel City, and What That Means for Scrap

Unit 2c, Tyler Way, Don Valley. 8 minutes from M1 J34.

It's not lost on us that we run a scrap metal yard in the city that defined British steel. Sheffield's relationship with ferrous and non-ferrous metal goes back centuries. The giant integrated steelworks of the twentieth century are largely gone, but the engineering supply chain that grew around them isn't. We deal with precision engineering companies, fabrication shops, manufacturing businesses, construction contractors and demolition firms across South Yorkshire every week.

The yard is at Tyler Way in the Don Valley industrial corridor, around 8 minutes from M1 Junction 34 and signposted from the A6109. We're well placed for businesses in Attercliffe, Tinsley, Handsworth, Darnall and the eastern industrial areas of Sheffield. Plenty of space for vans, flatbed trucks, tippers and HGVs. Meadowhall is five minutes away if you've combined a delivery with a job at the centre.

We serve customers from across South Yorkshire and north Derbyshire: Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, Mexborough, Chesterfield, Dronfield and the Peak District fringe. The M1 puts most of the catchment within 25 minutes. Trade accounts available for regular customers who need invoicing.

Sheffield's cutlery and tool-making heritage means we see a higher-than-average volume of stainless steel and specialist alloys. We grade these correctly. We don't lump 316 marine stainless in with 304 food-grade just because it's easier on the books.

Scrap Metal Prices in Sheffield

Same daily rates as Preston and Stockport. Updated every working morning.

After today's scrap copper price per kg in Sheffield? Aluminium, lead, brass, anything else? It's all on the live price table further up the page. The £ per tonne figure you see there is the figure you'll get quoted when you pull into Tyler Way, once your metal's been graded on the scales.

One rate card across all three yards. So if you're in Rotherham wondering whether it's worth driving to a Preston yard for a better number, save yourself the trip. Same price here.

What we do offer at Tyler Way is honest grading. If you've brought us heavy copper, that's what we'll pay you for. We won't downgrade it to braziery because it makes the books easier. And bank transfer goes out the same day, before you've made it back home.

Not sure what grade you've got? WhatsApp a photo and rough weight to 07300 318996. We'll come back with a quote before you load the van.

The Sheffield Trades We Work With

Steel City history shapes what comes through the yard. We see plenty of it.

Engineering & CNC

Steel turnings, brass swarf, stainless offcuts. We grade and weigh each separately so you're not losing money to lazy categorising.

Cutlery & Tools

Tungsten carbide tipping is worth real money. Keep it separate and we'll price it by the kilo, not lump it in with mixed steel.

Plumbing & Electrical

Cylinder tanks, copper pipe, bright wire, lead flashing, brass fittings. Plumbers and sparks in and out daily.

Demolition & Construction

Tool steel from engineering shops, brake discs from MOT centres, copper pipework, aluminium offcuts. Free collection on qualifying non-ferrous volumes — just ring ahead.

Motor Trade & Breakers

Cats, batteries, brake discs, electric motors, ali wheels. Cats are priced per unit. Ring first if you've got a vanload.

Sheffield Scrap Yard — FAQs

Where is the QuickStop Metals scrap yard in Sheffield?
Our Sheffield scrap yard is at Unit 2c, Tyler Way, Sheffield, S9 1DH. We're in the Don Valley industrial area off the A6109. Postcode it and you'll find us.
Do I need an appointment?
No appointment needed. Drive straight in during opening hours: Monday to Friday 8am to 4:30pm, Saturday 8am to 12pm. We'll weigh your metal and get you paid the same day.
What non-ferrous metals do you buy in Sheffield?
We buy copper (bright, heavy, braziery), brass (clean and mixed), aluminium (sheet and cast), lead, stainless steel (304 and 316), cables, and electric motors. We also buy gold and silver.
Do you buy ferrous metals as well?
Only two ferrous grades: brake discs and Mixed Tool Steel. We don’t currently buy general ferrous scrap such as heavy steel, light iron, cast iron, new steel offcuts or mixed loads — for those, please contact a specialist ferrous merchant.
How do you pay for scrap metal?
We pay by BACS bank transfer the same day. On your first visit you'll need to register with photo ID and proof of address — that's a legal requirement under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. We don't pay cash.
Is the Sheffield yard easy to find from the M1?
Yes. Tyler Way is in the Don Valley industrial area, about 8 minutes from M1 Junction 34. It's well signposted from the A6109. Good access for HGVs and larger vehicles.
Do you buy from businesses in Rotherham and Barnsley?
Yes. We get customers from Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster and Chesterfield regularly. The M1 makes us easy to reach from across South Yorkshire. Call ahead if you're bringing a large load.
Is there a minimum load?
No minimum for drop-offs. Whether it’s a van load of copper or a load of brake discs, drive in and we’ll weigh it. For free collections, a minimum load applies — call us to discuss.
What's the scrap copper price in Sheffield today?
Sheffield prices match Preston and Stockport — one rate card across all three yards. The live figure is on the price table above this section, updated each working morning against the LME settlement. Bright copper pays more than heavy, which pays more than braziery. Per kg is the per tonne figure divided by 1,000.
Where's the closest scrap yard to Meadowhall?
We're about five minutes from Meadowhall. Tyler Way is just off the A6109 in the Don Valley industrial area — if you've combined a trip to the centre with a metal drop-off, we're easy. The postcode is S9 1DH.
Do you take scrap from Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster?
Yes — we have regular trade customers across South Yorkshire. Rotherham is 10 minutes up the M1, Barnsley 25 minutes, Doncaster 35 minutes. Worth the journey for non-ferrous volume. Trade accounts available if you need monthly invoicing.
What postcodes do you cover for scrap collection?
Free collection is available across S1–S35 (Sheffield), S60–S75 (Rotherham, Barnsley, Dearne Valley), S40–S45 (Chesterfield and north Derbyshire) and S80/S81 (Worksop/Bassetlaw), subject to a minimum load. Call to arrange.
What ID do I need to bring to the Sheffield yard?
First visit: a photographic ID (passport, driving licence) plus proof of address dated within the last three months (utility bill, bank statement, council tax letter). This is a legal requirement under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 and applies at every scrap yard in the UK. Once you're registered with us, future visits are quicker.
Do you buy tungsten carbide and specialist alloys?
Yes — given Sheffield's tool-making heritage we see a lot of tungsten carbide tipping, inserts and specialist tool steels. Keep them separate from general scrap if possible — they're worth significantly more per kg and we price them individually.
