Collection FAQs
Metals We Collect and What We Can't Take
We collect the full range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals from commercial sites.
Non-ferrous metals collected include copper (all grades — bright wire, heavy, braziery), brass (clean and mixed), aluminium (sheet, extrusions, cast), lead (sheet, pipe, flashing), stainless steel, cable and wire, and electric motors. These are typically the highest-value loads and are prioritised for collection.
Ferrous metals collected include heavy steel (structural sections, plate), light iron (sheet, fabrication offcuts), cast iron, and new steel offcuts. For ferrous-only loads a minimum volume applies — call ahead to confirm whether a collection is viable for your quantity.
What we cannot collect: Hazardous waste, asbestos-containing materials, fridges and air conditioning units containing refrigerant (these require specialist disposal), and any material that requires a hazardous waste carrier licence. If you're unsure, call us and we'll advise.
💡 Not sure if collection is worth it for your volume? For non-ferrous metals, a collection makes financial sense from around 100kg. For ferrous-only loads you'd typically need a full van or more. Call us for an honest answer.
Where We Collect From
Free commercial collection within 50 miles of each of our three depots.
Preston depot covers all of Lancashire — Preston, Blackburn, Burnley, Chorley, Lancaster, Blackpool, Southport, Leyland, Skelmersdale, Clitheroe, and south into Wigan and north Cheshire.
Stockport depot covers Greater Manchester and north Cheshire — Manchester city, Stockport, Hyde, Macclesfield, Altrincham, Warrington, and across into Derbyshire.
Sheffield depot covers South Yorkshire and north Derbyshire — Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, Chesterfield, and the northern Peak District.
The three catchments overlap — if you're between depots we'll send whichever vehicle is closest. For very large loads outside all three radii, call us — we may be able to arrange collection at cost.
Regular Collections and Site Containers
For businesses generating scrap metal continuously, we can structure something more permanent.
Scheduled collections run on a fixed frequency — weekly, fortnightly, or monthly — depending on how quickly your scrap accumulates. We agree a schedule, you accumulate the metal, we arrive on the agreed day and pay you. No need to call each time. This suits engineering companies, demolition contractors, active building sites, and manufacturers.
Site containers — we deliver a skip or roll-on/roll-off container, you fill it at your own pace, and call us when it's ready. We collect, weigh at the yard, and pay you for the contents. Container size depends on your volume and metal type — contact us to discuss what works for your site.
Both services come with formal paperwork — a purchase note on collection and a payment confirmation — suitable for your accounts. Trade account holders receive monthly statements summarising all transactions.
